Annual Research Day Conference 2021
Dr Preetam Sharma participated and chaired sessions within the Net-zero carbon theme at the Annual Research Day Conference 2021, held at Loughborough University. This was a much anticipated event as it was held in-person for the first time in two years and had more than 150 attendees throughout the day. The UKRI Interdisciplinary Centre for Circular Chemical Economy featured in the keynote presentation as a research highlight. Circular Economy was one of the themes of the event with several student presentations aligned with circularity and CircularChem.
Ms Onyi Okoligwe, one of the Centre’s doctoral student, presented her results on the conversion of municipal waste to bio-oil and biogas During Net Zero Carbon – Fuels and Aerodynamics session. There were several interesting sessions, including Net Zero Carbon – Manufacturing The future session, where discussions were based on development of materials for improving the efficiency and lifetime of coal and nuclear power plants. Net Zero Carbon Future – Jet Engine Advances focused on improving the design of the jet engines to make the air-travel more sustainable. There were also panel discussions on electrochemistry, focused on direct ethanol fuel cell, formic acid fuel cell and solid oxide fuel cells.
